I am happy to share I will be presenting twice at ALA Annual in Chicago. Fortunately, Chicago is only a short drive or train right away, so unlike last year when I was stuck in ORD and couldn’t make it to DC or home, I should be there. I am hopeful of getting through this trip without getting COVID again. (I caught COVID for the first time on my failed trip to DC. I have been struggling with long COVID ever since.)
I will be presenting as part of the ALA-APA content. I love partnering with them. I will also give away copies of my book, Fostering Wellness in the Workplace: A Handbook for Libraries, at these presentations. I hope you can join me!

We will discuss holistic ways to manage our wellbeing so that we avoid burnout. The discussion will focus on practices designed to care for the body and mind in ways that can get us through stressful times.

Unwind Your Mind: Incorporating a Wellness Series at Your Library (Poster 60)
Sunday, June 25, 2023, 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM CT, Location: McCormick Place, W190a
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Northwest Mississippi Community College librarians noticed an increased level of stress and anxiety among our students, faculty, and staff. To mitigate the increasing anxiety levels among our community, we applied for and received a grant from the Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) to incorporate new “zen” spaces, materials, and programs to address mindfulness, mental health, and overall wellness in our college. This poster will represent a year-long series of community outreach wellness programs, face-to-face in our three campus libraries and virtual for our entire seven-campuses.. Each program will be highlighted, along with attendance, program costs, marketing materials, and ideas for how other libraries might do similar programs on a small budget. Feedback from program participants and highlights of what worked well and what we will change in future programming will also be shared. Finally, the role of local community partnerships in our program planning will be shared.
