Library Closures for COVID-19

At this point, your library should be closed. The American Library Association, The Association of College and Research Libraries, and the Association of Rural and Small Libraries have all issued statements.  Some of us are working from home. Some of us are just home. Staff should not be required to report to work to get paid.  All of us should be getting paid.

You should not be providing curb service. Any means you take to try to protect staff and patrons takes valuable resources away from those who need right now, including senior care facilities and health care providers. There is a great Twitter thread on this here.

Libraries That Are Still Open

Here is a Google Doc that lists libraries that are still open by state, ways you can contact them, and reasons they should close.

Important note about contacting libraries still open. I have had several private conversations over the last week from people who are responsible for and/or work in a library that is not closed. It is important to remember that the decision may be coming from outside the library. Library management may well want to close. Remember, the person you’re tweeting at may have zero authority or influence. In some cases, library staff are walking off the job.
