This is What a Librarian Looks Like – 3 Years and Counting

The three-year anniversary of This is What a Librarian Looks Like came and went in February. I love this project! It’s not about shoes, or fashion, or books, but about librarians showing the world what they love and what makes them tick. That sometimes includes shoes, and fashion, and books, but sometimes not. We have fire dancers, fire breathers, runners, swimmers, bicyclists, scuba divers, skydivers, zombies, fairies, roller derby divas, football players, foodies, skiers, beer lovers, whiskey and gin drinkers. Librarians come from all over the world, in all shapes, sizes, ages, races, and ethnicities. And they all rock!

For the three year anniversary, I made maps to show the location of submissions from the United States (which are the majority) and around the world (yay!

We are missing librarians from Utah, Nevada, Idaho, New Mexico, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Rhode Island! How is that possible? (It might be possible because not everyone includes their location with their photo, and that is just fine.)

We are up to 42 countries!

The Numbers:

  • 1381 photos submitted
  • 42 countries
  • 75,000+ followers on Tumblr
  • 3 years and counting!

If you haven’t already –  submit your picture today!

Some general guidelines:

  • Do not submit photos of others without their permission.
  • Be tasteful.
  • Images should include some aspect of your personality or your work.
  • Include some information about the type of library you work in, the type of work you do and where you live.
  • If you ‘d like to include some of the following, feel free.
    — your name (it won’t automatically include it from the form)
    — a link to your website, blog, or twitter account
    — additional commentary about yourself
    — your country, or more detailed location info
