Librarian by Day

Bobbi L. Newman

This morning Salem Press announced the winners of their 2012 Blog Awards. When I saw the announcement for nominees a couple of weeks ago I was honored and humbled to be included along side this year’s fellow nominees for public library blogs which included – RA for AllDavid Lee KingRichard Kong, and Agnostic, Maybe.

Because of such fine company I was surprised to see this morning’s announcement for the public library category:

Public Library Blog Winner
Librarian by Day
Public Library Blog Honorable Mention
David Lee King

Two well-cultivated blogs rose to the top in the Public category, both written by librarians with large, dedicated followings. “David Lee King is one of the most trusted names in the library geek world. Even if he is blogging a conference, people are reading,” said one judge. “Bobbi Newman is a spitfire and thank goodness for that,” said another judge. The judges’ votes remained evenly split, but the public vote went in Bobbi’s favor. Her Librarian by Day blog came close to winning in this category in 2011.

Spitfire? Well I certainly can’t argue with that! I’m glad someone appreciates it, it seems to get me into trouble more often that not! 🙂

When the nominees were announced I was even more surprised that to see This Is What a Librarian Looks  Like show up in the quirky category along side some of my favorite blogs – Screwy DecimalDaring LibrarianLibrarian Lifestyle, and All These Birds with Teeth. It is truly an honor to receive an honorable mention.

My partner in crime,- Erin Downey Howerton, and I put this project together on a whim purely for fun. And it has been so much fun watching the submissions roll in! At last count we had over 500 submissions from 25 countries! But the truth is what makes this project success is all of you. It wouldn’t be the amazing and diverse snapshot of librarianship it is without submissions from you. If you haven’t submitted a photo go do it now! 🙂

It is an honor to be included with the other winners and nominees including – In the Library with at Lead Pipe, Musings About Librarianships, Screwy Decimal, and The Adventures of Library Girl.

A special congratulations to my Mover and Shaker class co-horts  Aaron Tay and Sue Polanka, winner and runner-up in the academic category and Gwyneth Jones for her nomination in the Quirky Category!

Congratulations to everyone nominated!

Thank you to everyone who voted in this year’s Salem Press blog awards.   And thank you to this year’s judges!
