Librarian by Day

Fiction

I’m leading with fiction this month because I’m so excited about it on many levels. This weekend I watched the first episode of Game on Thrones on HBO, loved it and immediately went out and downloaded an audio version of the book its based on A Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire: Book One. I spent a good portion of the weekend carrying the iPad from room to room so I could listen while I cleaned or cooked, or peddled mini bike. Can’t wait to see the next episode of the show & finish the book!

Non Fiction

I’m listening to both of these titles. First the Guy Kawasaki book, Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions, I bought this one with my Audible subscription since the library didn’t have it as a downloadable audio book. Since all librarians are library advocates 24/7 I want to be on my toes and ready at moments notice to convince whomever needs convincing about our awesomeness.

The second book is Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard by the authors of Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die I got from the library and may have to renew. Its a fascinating read about change. I’m not sure I like the whole “rider” and “elephant” thing but I’m getting some good information from it about will power and why we fail even when we want to change, (hint its not because we’re lazy).

I’m also rereading Digital and Media Literacy: A Plan of Action as part of my preperation and planning for serving on the OITP Digital Literacy Task Force.

I’m excited about fiction right now too. 🙂 I’ve also started Game of Thrones and reading A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. As for non-fiction, I’m on a self-help kick (again) with The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown.

My husband’s been on me to read it for years but I was stubborn, thinking it would end up being too R.A. Salvotore. Sometimes it takes the threat of a movie/tv series to motivate me to finally give something a chance, which is sad but how it is sometimes. 🙂

LOL I think its a good thing. I know some of my favorite books I never would have read had they not been made into to movies 🙂
