Librarian by Day

Bobbi L. Newman

My addiction to Facebook is no secret, I check it regliously regularly and if your’e my friend you probably get poked a lot.  For me it’s a great tool to keep in touch with people.  I pretty much igonre the ads, but today there was one that really caught my eye.  Rideshare! In my area!

Are any Libraries using these targeted ads?  If they are displaying based on users zip code or network it could be a useful way to draw more people to your page, or in the case of this ad, your website.

I’m glad you’re getting relevant ads. Mine sure aren’t. If someone was considering using these for a library, I would be concerned that the ads might not reach relevant users…. at least based on the ads I see!!! And then the other concern would be that people would just ignore the ads, like you said you do! 😉

I just saw a thread on Web4Lib where the Edmonton (CA) library is using targeted ads in Facebook. They posted their results there just a couple of days ago. They didn’t get a lot of clicks, but then FB isn’t known for click-happy (on ads at least) users… They were pleased, though, according to the gentleman who ran the test!

@Josh – you are gonna be SO sorry! 🙂

@ Talking books – Yep today I saw ads for Yarn and wine, both of which I’m intersted in. I belong to a lot of groups, maybe that has something to do with it?

@ Robin – Off to hunt down that post!
