Collaborating in the Cloud

My first session at MLA,  Collaborating in the Cloud by Robin, I’d heard so much about it I had to see it for myself. definition of collaborating from wikipedia adds distance option & time option across country or across continent collaboration isnt just for others but also allows you to back up your own documents peer networking don’t have to deal with hierarchies tools social calenders social networking sites social bookmarking social desktops social wikis social documents groupware bad thing about the cloud is that all info is outside the company firewall might not be so secure Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Share on FriendFeed Share on netvibes share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tumblr it Buzz it up Subscribe to the comments on this post Print for later Tell a friend

Joshua M. Neff’s big announcement

Joshua M. Neff’s big announcement

wow, blogging before I’ve finished my second cup of coffee.  It takes something pretty exciting to make that happen.  Well this IS exciting!  Josh has had us on pins and needles for the last couple of weeks, waiting for his big announcement.  He finally made it this morning!  Library Society of the World has a new website,  head over to Josh’s site to learn more and join up!  Not a member of LSW?  You should join, it’s a free, it’s causal, and you’ll meet some great people.  Josh kicked off the group with the goal of being an equal place for all people interested in libraries and doing some good in libraryland.  In his own words. By joining the Society, you are joining a world-spanning group of library professionals and library advocates, dedicated to furthering the role of librarians, archivists, information professionals, and information educators through communication and collaboration. The LSW is about people, not buildings (although some of us think architecture is sexy). It’s about friendship, not organization. It’s about creating and fostering opportunities, not building barriers and divisions. Go join!  Yes, even you people outside of the US, it’s Library Society of the World! What’s your hook?

What’s your hook?

One of the things about having a blog or facebook page for patrons is that you need to give them a reason to come back. What can they get there that they can’t get anywhere else? The Pirates application on Facebook hooked me with the monkey, I love monkeys! So what hook are you using to get people to read your blog?  visit your myspace page?  What hooks do you use to get people to come to 3D library events?  How can you apply those to the web?
