Vooks = Books + Online Video = Tranliteracy

November 16, 2009

A vook blends the text of a book with video into one story.  I’m fascinated by this new this new multimedia approach to books.  I have no idea if it will be successful, I can’t really see the appeal for fiction, but for something like a fitness or other how-to books I can see having a video as an advantage for demonstration.  Think of all the how-to videos on YouTube. You get the advantages of text and video in one. Part of my fascination is due to the great example of transliteracy this provides. It is providing information through multiple media formats. We often see text in videos or on images.  We are used to seeing videos embedded on websites and blogs. This does seem like the next logical step. But I wonder if it will really take off, maybe for a small market I’d like to see this affect ereaders, they can display text and images, and we are all waiting for color, why not video too? For Those Who Are an Overnight Success and For Those Who Aren’t a Video Series From Chris Brogan

These videos are from Chris Brogan’s Over Night Success Series. There are 9 videos total covering topics such as Grinding vs Clocking – Time and the Overnight Success, Pity Party, Small Talk is Big, Belief Systems, The Competition, What it Takes, No Excuses & A Call to Arms. These videos are great even if you aren’t an over night success, even if you aren’t a success. These 3 are my favorite (although it was hard to pick) Take time off – I’ve said it before you need your down time but I’m always happy to point out when others say the same thing.  :-) Don’t believe the hype – I included this one because Chris says – by over night success I mean 10 years of hard work. Here’s another bag of money – on excuses. We all make excuses that become between us and our goals. Decide what your priorities are. Stop making excuses. Library 101: More Than Just a Pretty Face

The newest video from David Lee King & Michael Porter debuted at Internet Librarian to a room full of people and a live remote audience thanks to streaming by the Shanachies. Library 101 is more than just a video, it’s a project with a website that includes essays from libraryland leaders about what Library 101 means to them.  It also has a great source page that lists 101 Things to Know. Disclosure: I’m in the video and listed in the blogs on the Things to Know page (no pressure right?) PS The video made Boing Boing!!!!
