My 71 hours as a Palm Pre owner

I had my Pre for less than 3 whole days so this is hardly a comprehensive review but rather a report of my experience since so many people asked me about why I returned it. I’ve been awaiting for the Pre for a long time.  My contract with Sprint expired in January and I’d started shopping around, wanting a little more from a smartphone than I was getting from my Centro.  I’d pretty much decided to switch to an iPhone when the Pre was announced. I waited not so patiently for it to come out.  Well Saturday was the Day! I headed to the Sprint store and got there around 8:50, by 9:40 everything was complete other than loading my contacts and some basic instructions on how to use it.  But we ran into a glitch, they couldn’t get my contacts to load.  Now the employees were wonderful and it was not fault of theirs, but I didn’t actually leave the store until 12:30. I headed home and plugged in my Pre to fully charge the battery and download the latest version of the software.  Once I started using it noticed right away that my signal at home was weak.

My Dell Mini 9 – a review

A lot of people have stopped me and asked me about the Dell Mini over the last few days.  Ok, fine, maybe I was flaunting it at MLA a little bit and I’ve been going on endlessly about it on Twitter, but it’s completely deserving. Let me state for the record, I do not have an IT background, I am a slightly more Techie than average person but that’s  it.  The opinions expressed in here are based on my love of the Mini & the hour or so of research I did to find out about solid state hard drives.  I have only had the Mini for 7 days & I reserve the right to change my mind, update or modify my opinion at any time Why I wanted/needed the Mini: For the last year I’ve been painfully aware that I needed a new laptop.  Now I have  a desktop, a fine workhorse of a machine with a 19 inch monitor and plenty of hard drive space left.  So I don’t technically need a laptop, but I travel a fair amount and I enjoy working from my sofa or kitchen table or local coffee shop or brewery on occasion.  If I

One Man’s Treasure…

Meredith Farkas’ recent post about Library 2.0 got me thinking about me; my title, my position, my duties and my goals. The position of Digital Services Librarian is just 6 months old (and I think the title itself has changed 3 times already). My duties and goals are always in flux which means, for me at least, my position is 2.0. As in not static, changing, evolving, and developing to meet the needs of my users – library staff and patrons. Six months seems like a good time to reflect and, if needed, re-access. A lot has happened, I attended my first Internet Librarian conference, kicked off Library Learning 2.1, helped introduce gaming to the library, created our Facebook page, presented at a conference, just to name a few and the hits just keep on coming. When I look back I think I’ve learned two very important things, I tried to narrow it down to just one, but the two are intertwined, so we’ll call them 1.1 and 1.2 1.1 If you build it they will come. (to paraphrase Shoeless Joe) Or maybe not. One of the best aspects of working for a small library system is that it is
