Box o’ Fun

Lesson 20 of Library Learning 2.1 has just gone up, which means we’re about a half way through this years lessons.  We’ve got some late starters which is great.  I was a bit too busy at the beginning of the year to offer as much encouragement as I’d hoped to be able to.  I’m also not above resorting to bribes.  Check out these awesome foam swords I got in Target’s dollar bin.  I made sure lots of people know they are in the Box o’ Fun! 23 Things updates from PLCM

February 19, 2008

PLCMC, who we “stole” our Library Learning 2.0 program from, has created a Zoho Notebook to highlight updates to the applications they used in the 23 Things since the lessons were written. The guide shows the original date the lesson was posted, how the tool worked “then” and now it works “now”, it’s interesting to see documentation of how much things have evolved. One Man’s Treasure…

January 24, 2008

Meredith Farkas’ recent post about Library 2.0 got me thinking about me; my title, my position, my duties and my goals. The position of Digital Services Librarian is just 6 months old (and I think the title itself has changed 3 times already). My duties and goals are always in flux which means, for me at least, my position is 2.0. As in not static, changing, evolving, and developing to meet the needs of my users – library staff and patrons. Six months seems like a good time to reflect and, if needed, re-access. A lot has happened, I attended my first Internet Librarian conference, kicked off Library Learning 2.1, helped introduce gaming to the library, created our Facebook page, presented at a conference, just to name a few and the hits just keep on coming. When I look back I think I’ve learned two very important things, I tried to narrow it down to just one, but the two are intertwined, so we’ll call them 1.1 and 1.2 1.1 If you build it they will come. (to paraphrase Shoeless Joe) Or maybe not. One of the best aspects of working for a small library system is that it is

Changes Abound

November 27, 2007

Since my position at the library is new and the idea of a digital services is still emerging and the idea of a digital librarian is evolving, there are a lot of changes. I just finished writing my job description last week and already my title has changed. With all the tasks, responsibilities, and initiatives my position involves it’s been bumped up to manager level. Since no one actually reports to me, I get the title of Digital Services Coordinator. My responsibilities don’t actually change other than they seem to constantly be growing and developing. Today I worked with vendors to pay bills, schedule training sessions and promotions for next year. Work on the Library’s Facebook page, had two long meetings, talked with people in Public Relations, Children’s, IT, and Reference. This week I have one-on-one meeting with two different staff members to wrap up questions from Learning 2.0. Then I’ll be writing Library Learning 2.1 lessons. Plus 20 other things that will pop up that I haven’t thought of yet! I can’t wait! If you’re interested in minute by minute updates follow me over at Twitter.
