23 Things Summit Wrap Up #23smt

Yesterday’s  23 Thing Summit was great and intense (audio, slides, chat and Twitter!)  There were almost 300 attendees (I think). WebJunction and MaintainIT staff did a great job wrangling the presenters and the attendees.  Thank you Brenda, Michael, Jennifer and everyone else! If you couldn’t make it, you can find the slides, audio and chat transcripts here and David took some notes. There was even a Twitter hash tag  #23smt, which popped up on Twitter trends about 40 minutes in. State wide Learning 2.0 programs

Something that came up while I was giving my presentation at MLA is that Missouri should have state wide Learning 2.0 program.  My response – I’d love it! here is who go you suggest this to and let’s see what happens.  I ended up having several conversations with the “right” people before I left and as prep work for my follow up email I sent a question off to the Twitterati - anyone know of any states organizations doing Learning 2.0 statewide? with participants from multiple libraries? I thought I’d share the responses. Nebraska Minnesota Arizona Maryland Australia Tennessee Edited to add – thanks to even more responses from Twitter Idaho I know these types of programs are great for small library systems that don’t have the staff to run their own program. Find Your Friends on Facebook

I taught this class last night as part of the series of Internet classes I’m teaching to patrons at MRRL. I was a bit worried going into it, as almost all of the people at previous classes were seniors so I on the handout I added the websites I learned about at Internet Librarian last year.  It ended up being a very interesting mix.  I had some moms with their teenagers who wanted learn about Facebook to monitor their kids profiles, a lady interested in setting up a page for a Non-Profit, and some seniors.  I’m not sure I’ll teach this one again, probably I’ll cover it in Internet Safety that I’m doing later this year or I’ll redirect specifically to parents who want to know what their children are up to.  It’s hard to teach people about Facebook, I think it’s just one of those things that is really hard to explain.  This is probably the least well done of any presentation I’ve put together.  Find Your Friends On Facebook View more presentations from Bobbi Newman.
