Library Finds Group on Flickr

Anyone who’s worked in a library in any capacity knows patrons leave behind all sorts of things, some strange, some amusing and some that just make you scratch your head and wonder.  Brian Herzog of Swiss Army Librarian has created a Flickr group where we can share these little treasures with each other. Similar to Found Magazine, but just for libraries. Go take a look, join up and share the things you’ve found in your library. Brian says: I’m not uploading anything that seemed personally-identifiable: peoples’ first and last names, phone numbers, email addresses, account login and passwords – and there were a frighteningly large number of these. That’s good advice any contributor should follow.  Now go take a picture of that cheesecake pan someone left in the stacks & upload it! Have fun! Joshua M. Neff’s big announcement

Joshua M. Neff’s big announcement

wow, blogging before I’ve finished my second cup of coffee.  It takes something pretty exciting to make that happen.  Well this IS exciting!  Josh has had us on pins and needles for the last couple of weeks, waiting for his big announcement.  He finally made it this morning!  Library Society of the World has a new website,  head over to Josh’s site to learn more and join up!  Not a member of LSW?  You should join, it’s a free, it’s causal, and you’ll meet some great people.  Josh kicked off the group with the goal of being an equal place for all people interested in libraries and doing some good in libraryland.  In his own words. By joining the Society, you are joining a world-spanning group of library professionals and library advocates, dedicated to furthering the role of librarians, archivists, information professionals, and information educators through communication and collaboration. The LSW is about people, not buildings (although some of us think architecture is sexy). It’s about friendship, not organization. It’s about creating and fostering opportunities, not building barriers and divisions. Go join!  Yes, even you people outside of the US, it’s Library Society of the World! Playing with Facebook

Playing with Facebook

I’ve spent an hour or so playing with Facebook this morning.  MRRL has had a facebook page for awhile now, but I thought I’d create a group to see if that works better and/or attracts more fans.  One perk I noticed is I’m allowed to create officers and name them whatever I like, so far I’ve named myself Crown Princess and Robin Webgoddess   Does anyone have any experience with Page vs Groups? or just thoughts you’d like to share?  On a slightly related note, have you seen TouchGraph?  It will create a visual map of keywords or URLs.  Very cool.  It also has a Facebook plugin which I used to make the graph below.  Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Share on FriendFeed Share on netvibes share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tumblr it Buzz it up Subscribe to the comments on this post Print for later Tell a friend
