Collaborating in the Cloud

My first session at MLA,  Collaborating in the Cloud by Robin, I’d heard so much about it I had to see it for myself. definition of collaborating from wikipedia adds distance option & time option across country or across continent collaboration isnt just for others but also allows you to back up your own documents peer networking don’t have to deal with hierarchies tools social calenders social networking sites social bookmarking social desktops social wikis social documents groupware bad thing about the cloud is that all info is outside the company firewall might not be so secure Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Share on FriendFeed Buzz it up Share on netvibes share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tumblr it Buzz it up Subscribe to the comments on this post Print for later Tell a friend

Mobius Conference Overview

Mobius Conference Overview

Mobuis is a consortium of Missouri Libraries, predominately universities and colleges, with a few public libraries, like MRRL. It’s a relatively small conference aimed at academics, but so many things translate across the board – podcasting, social networking, improving your OPAC, etc.  I was able to attend some great sessions, and like always I’m returning to work with Plans.  Nothing gets me revved up to try new things like connecting with other librarians.   Stay tuned! The presentation went great.  The photo at right shows the right half of the room, there was a large pillar in the middle that really limited how much I could move around while talking and still stay in sight for everyone.  I also had to use a mic, the room was too big and too crowded for even me to be able to talk loud enough in.  I’m sure I’ll get used to it but it really made me feel disconnected from the audience and that connection is one of my favorite things about giving talks like this.    Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Share on FriendFeed Buzz it up Share on netvibes share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tumblr it Buzz it up

Connect With Your Patrons in the Digital World

I’m giving this presentation at the Mobius conference today, I wish I could say it’s somewhere exotic, but it’s just in at the Lake.  Which means a lot of driving but no overnight stay for me. Connect with your patrons in the digital world View more presentations from Bobbi Newman. I’ll also be attending some sessions, I’m not sure what the wifi situation is but look for notes soon! UKSG pt 1

UKSG pt 1

I’ve arrived in Torquay, and it’s only day one of the conference but I’ve already seen a couple of things that are different from the US conferences I’ve attended that I’m impressed with, I’d love to see this practice at more conferences. Included with the conference each day are a lunch and dinner. It’s a great opportunity to meet and talk with other people, which is one of the best parts of going to conferences. You can sit with someone different at every meal, hear different perspectives and exchange ideas with out the hassle of trying to meet people in your classes to meet up with later (especially nice if you’ve traveled alone and/or you don’t know loads of people), find a place with decent food and worry about how you’ll split the bill. Even better, the food is fabulous and wine is provided with dinner! On a side note, it snowed the first 2 days here!
