Several people have asked me to share the classes I’m creating for the Patrons. I’m doing half of the series, a coworker is doing the other half, so you’ll only be seeing half the lessons. The first one is Introduction to Blogging. It’s geared towards, beginners, people don’t really know much about blogs or blogging. I’ll cover some information about blogs then have them set up up if they like. I’ve also put together a handout to accompany it. I’ll be teaching this next month so I’ll let you know how it goes. The Laptops are Here!
The laptops are here! I snuck in early this morning to sneak a picture of one of them. Dont’ tell Robin! Yes all 15 are red, they were on clearance from Gateway. We also purchased an instructor laptop that is blue, it’s a bit more powerful. Even better, it came with a free digital camera! I’m hoping we’ll have more pictures of programs and events on MRRL’s Flickr account now! The laptops are for a Grant we received for a Mobile Technology Teaching Lap. We’ll be using them to teach patrons basic computer classes like email, Internet safety in addition to classes about blogging and facebook! Computer/Internet Classes for Patrons
MRRL is getting ready to kick off it’s new serious of computer/internet classes for the public. I’ve agreed to teach half of them, so I’ve been busy working on presentations and plans. I wonder how this will be different from teaching other Librarians. Here’s my list of classes, any tips or suggestions? Introduction to Blogging: Learn the basics of blogging – We’ll cover, what is a blog, how to find blogs you’d like to read, how to start a blog and basic blog etiquette. Find Your Friends on Facebook :An introduction to Facebook, a social website used to find and stay in touch with old and new friends. Online Picture Sharing : Learn the basics of storing and sharing your pictures on the internet. Using an online photos site is a great back up of your digital pictures! Discover New Library Resources : Explore the many online resources the library offers access to. Introduction to many of our databases and the best way to search them. The Basics of Internet Safety : Want to be involved with the new, fun sites you’re hearing about but wonder how safe they are? Want to know more about the sites your children are
Web 2.0 Class Complete!
Yesterday Robin and I finished our two day workshop on Web 2.0. It was so much fun! I have to agree with Robin, I was surprised at how excited about all things Web 2.0 I got just from talking about it for 2 days. Trust me, I had no problems talking about it for 2 days, I think I could have gone for a third! The classroom set up and number of participants was perfect, it allowed for some real hands on help when we gave them time to create and play with their new accounts. They were excited about what they can do and asked some really great questions. I can’t wait to see how they implement what they learned for themselves and for their libraries!
