The Laptops are Here!

The laptops are here! I snuck in early this morning to sneak a picture of one of them.  Dont’ tell Robin!   Yes all 15 are red, they were on clearance from Gateway.  We also purchased an instructor laptop that is blue, it’s a bit more powerful.  Even better, it came with a free digital camera!  I’m hoping we’ll have more pictures of programs and events on MRRL’s Flickr account now!  The laptops are for a Grant we received for a Mobile Technology Teaching Lap.  We’ll be using them to teach patrons basic computer classes like email, Internet safety in addition to classes about blogging and facebook! Guitar Hero Rocks the Library

Guitar Hero Rocks the Library

Saturday was our first Game Day to include Guitar Hero. It was a small, last minute Game Day in order to help introduce the exciting new programs we’ll be having this year and the opening of our Teen Zone. It was a success! Although the lighting in the room wasn’t great I managed to snap a few ok pictures. Some how Robin got a hold of the camera while we were setting up and took this one of me. Eh, I had no idea I looked like that while rocking out. Luckily once the teens started showing up I didn’t have a chance to get anywhere near a guitar Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Share on FriendFeed Buzz it up Share on netvibes share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tumblr it Buzz it up Subscribe to the comments on this post Print for later Tell a friend

We are del.icio.us!

We are del.icio.us!

With a “to do” list a mile long I feel as though I’ll never get anything finished. Technically this isn’t finished either as it’s meant to be a living page and it’s well on it’s way. My library is using our del.icio.us account to create our Weblinks page for our patrons. Robin set up the page using dishy and I’ve been busy adding links left and right. This is so much easier than maintaining a classic weblinks page, the Reference staff only has to know how to use del.icio.us and agree on a taxonomy for tags. No need to know html or use page editing software, which makes our website designer happy too. No creating each link manually or worry about ordering and descriptions. All I have to do it find the webpage, tag it with del.icio.us, assign my tags, add any descriptors I feel are necessary and voila it’s on our page. It’s just as easy to delete or update links too. As I’ve been browsing other Library’s Weblinks page for links to include on ours, I was surprised to see no one else using this method. I’m sure they are out there, I just haven’t found one yet.
